I have been exerting my brain and expanding my capacity to get posts up weekly, but this week I went blank. Don’t worry. I’m not facing the dreaded writer’s block. Instead, I’m consumed with a plethora of ideas, and when I try to focus on a single subject it just feels lacking. There were too many things to write about, too many paths to take… I had to stop and ask myself, ‘Where am I going?’ This left me with a throwback that I think we’ll all enjoy!
Writing exercises are my go-to when I can’t get my thoughts straight, or when I just can’t get any thoughts at all. In this post I’ll be adding two images below. You’ll glance, search, decipher, or even gaze at the pictures, then respond to questions I ask underneath each. In my classroom, I require a few paragraphs, but you write as much or as little as you need to. This exercise is a great way to clear your mind, and get all of your jumbled thoughts on paper. Then you can focus on your current work in progress.
1. Where does this staircase lead? (Think about world building and be creative.)
2. Would you go down those stairs? Why or Why not?
3. What is the first thing you would do if you got to the destination?
1. Create a character that would walk up these stairs. (Name, physical description, personality, social status)
2. Who would your character be meeting at the top of the stairs? Why?
3. Describe a circumstance where you character would have to flea this place and sneak away using this staircase.
